On Saturday, September 14th, the Irish Music Awards Best New Irish Artists of 2013 - The Gothard Sisters - will be performing on Guemes Island. The three sisters, Greta, Willow, and Solana, each began violin lessons at the age of five. Then one day their mother brought home a Riverdance video and their fates were sealed! They enrolled in Irish dance classes, which ignited their love of Celtic music, and eventually began performing around the Pacific Northwest – winning awards at Irish dance competitions. Three years in a row, they qualified for the World Championships! Today, when not touring, the girls write and record near their home in Edmonds, Washington. They’ve released seven albums and have performed more than 1,000 live shows. Their latest all-original album, Midnight Sun, reached #6 on the Billboard World Music charts as the highest-ranking debut. The Gothard’s musical style, a blend of Celtic, folk, classical, world and northwest, is dynamic and has earned them a loyal international following. With violins, guitar and mandolin, bodhran, djembe, whistles, stunning vocal harmonies and Irish dancing, these multi-instrumentalists with wow you with their on-stage charisma. Scott Carlito, author at Indie Band Guru put it this way, "[The Gothard Sisters] are no new girls on the block, they are at the top of their game and one of the industry's best kept secrets to those who've never heard them..." This show is being presented by The 4 Chicks – Cheryl Mansley, Libby Boucher, Lorrie Steele, and Suzie Gwost, and Phantom Power – Tony Boucher, Rick Mansley and Samantha Legowik. The 4 Chicks and Phantom Power create community events with a “down-home” feel that bring the community together in celebration of music and art. So, on Saturday, September 14th, gather your clan, put on your ghillies, and dance a jig on over to the Guemes Island Community Center at 7549 Guemes Island Road for an evening of Irish music and dance.
