Skagit Symphony?s mission is to contribute to the growth and appreciation of classical music in the community by performing a repertoire to a high standard. The mission includes providing the opportunity for skilled musicians in our region to perform with the orchestra, including soloists and local composers.
A secondary mission derives from the Symphony?s belief that each generation must preserve its cultural heritage and pass that heritage on musically to future generations. This is the guiding principle behind the Symphony?s Youth Program.
The Skagit Symphony is a community-based orchestra that has been in existence since 1961. Originally affiliated with the Skagit Valley College, we have been an independent, non-profit 501 (c) 3 Corporation since 1979. Our funding comes only partially from concert ticket sales, with two major fundraisers, and annual appeal and community and corporate support making up the difference. We have fifty-plus volunteer musicians who demonstrate their commitment to classical music for this community by attending weekly rehearsals as well as the concert performances. Our Board is also composed entirely of Volunteers.
