Join the Anacortes Museum for a free listening event featuring vintage phonograph records and radio shows. Staged as a guided DJ’d event, our ears will time travel to the ‘30s,‘40s, and ‘50s, where we will encounter the popular music, news programs, and stories that captivated Pacific Northwesterners long ago. This event is for kids ages 12 and up, teens, seniors, audiophiles, jazz enthusiasts, and those who love listening to a good story. DJ and jazz musician Daniel Greenwald, Museum Docent Al Bofenkamp, and Media Curator Kate Clark will share selections of sounds and stories that emerged from people’s home radios: from the devastation of WWII, to the swinging rhythms of race records, the imagined raids of invading Martians and beyond. Listening selections will be played on vintage radios and phonographs restored by Bofenkamp, currently on display at the Anacortes Museum.
