Western Washington University is hosting the May 21st Business After Hours from 5:30-7pm at their Shannon Point Marine Center (SPMC). Western Washington University’s Shannon Point Marine Center has been a member of the Anacortes community since 1973. SPMC leads undergraduate and graduate marine science education at Western and engages in high-quality research. SPMC has attracted some of the most talented minds in cutting edge science of complex issues such as ocean acidification, eel grass ecology and geochemistry, deep-sea larval dispersal and sea star wasting disease.
Shannon Point recently launched a concerted public outreach initiative pursuing more formal programs with the Anacortes School District (ASD). Through a partnership with the Marine Center, WWU’s Extended Education Youth Programs, and the school district, Anacortes kids have participated in afterschool enrichment programs that focus on marine science and STEM enrichment. Other community programs include Grandparent’s University and summer marine science enrichment camps that are now open for enrollment. SPMC is located at 1900 Shannon Point Road. For more information call (360) 293-2188. Please join us May 21, 2015 from 5:30-7pm at Shannon Point Marine Center. Beer, wine and light appetizers will be available.
