The Anacortes American invites the Anacortes Community to celebrate the American's 125th anniversary and the release of the Anacortes Museum's new book — "Pictures of the Past: Celebrating 125 years of Anacortes History" — on Thursday, May 7, 2015.
The event is 5:30-7 p.m. at the Depot Arts and Community Center. Come celebrate Anacortes' proud past and toast its bright future with a glass of Anacortes American Stop the Presses Anniversary Ale. The American has partnered with Anacortes Brewery to create a commemorative beer to mark these milestones.
"Pictures of the Past: Celebrating 125 years of Anacortes History" is a compilation of the best history stories written by retired American editor and publisher Wallie Funk. Wallie's columns, which were published in the American, are a treasure, and the accompanying photographs are amazing. Books will be for sale at the party.
Historic pictures submitted to the American and images from the museum's collection have been turned into large posters that will decorate the Depot's walls. The museum photos will be for sale, with all proceeds benefiting the Anacortes Museum Foundation.
Student artwork will also be on display. The American has partnered with the Anacortes School District to sponsor special art projects with a newspaper theme.
Ben Starner will be at the piano to provide background music from days gone by.
Complimentary snacks, wine and beer will be served. Be sure to take home a special 125th Anniversary coaster. (A $25 subscription offer is on the back.)
